The River of God Church, hereafter referred to as ROG, was started on November 28 1999 with a group of 24 believers meeting at the School of Professional Studies under the leadership of Rev Tony and Christine Pang.

The vision behind its inception was to pioneer a church with a vibrant worship experience, committed to the Word and mission driven to reach Nairobi and beyond. It was then under the supervision of Calvary Church, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and it was they who facilitated purchase of the present property which the church moved into in April 2000.

In May 2006, ROG became autonomous and Calvary Church released it to the Kenya Assemblies of God.

Driven by its unwavering commitment to missions and in respect to this being its core foundation, ROG has facilitated its members to go for missions in Uvaini, Kitui, Michegethio – Embu , Hola/Garsen, Watamu (Coast), and in Taita Taveta. It has also facilitated in kind some of its members going on missions both within Kenya and abroad including supporting its founder Pastors who now undertake missions in the Asian world.

Following the Embu mission, a decision was arrived at by the Church Board that ROG should plant a church there and in 2013 the Michegethio Church was officially opened with a full time pastor employed.

ROG also supports numerous charitable organisations, such as children’s homes, and works hand in hand with other Christian organisations such as The Gideon’s, Teen Challenge among others.

There have also been concerted efforts to improve the present sanctuary and this has so far included renovation of the Church altar, building of the new toilet block and kitchen.

We are committed to continual prayer. We rely on corporate and individual prayer in planning and execution of all church activities. 1st Thessalonians 5:17; Luke19:45; Mathew7:7

We believe people are created in the image of God and that every individual has the right to live a life of dignity and to realise their God given potential regardless of ethnicity gender, social status, age, physical or mental position. Genesis 1:26-27; Ephesians 2:20

We are passionate in worship, in the work we do at our various ministries, in our love for God and each other. Mathew 22:37-38

Performance :

We demand of ourselves an uncompromising quality and strive to be people who demonstrate integrity and excellence in everything God has called us to do. Colossians 3:23-24.

Kenya Assemblies of God (ROG), Parklands is led by Lead Pastor, Rev Tony Kiamah, Associate Pastor Rev. Carole Kiamah. It has a six member deacon board who together with the Lead Pastor oversee the church’s management and are its decision making organ. The church’s day to day running is handled by a staff comprising of an administrator, Office Manager, an accountant, Children’s Cordinator, Counselor, a caretaker and a worship intern.

KAG – River of God Church is wholly a part of the Kenya Assemblies of God fraternity, ROG is founded upon the Sixteen Fundamental Beliefs of the Assemblies of God. These are:
  1. WE BELIEVE…The Scriptures are inspired by God and declare His design and plan for mankind. (I Thessalonians 2:13; I Timothy 3:15; II Peter 1:21)
  2. WE BELIEVE…There is only One True God–revealed in three persons…Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (commonly known as the Trinity. ( Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 43:10, 11; Mathew 28:19; Luke 3:22)
  3. WE BELIEVE…In the Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ. As God’s son Jesus was both human and divine.
  • His virgin birth (Matthew 1:23; Luke 1:31, 35).
  • His sinless life (Hebrews 7:26; I Peter 2:22).
  • His miracles (Acts 2:22; 10:38).
  • His substitutionary work on the cross (I Cor. 15:3, II Cor. 5:21).
  • His bodily resurrection from the dead (Matt. 28:6; Luke 24:39; I Cor. 15:4).
  • His exaltation to the right hand of God (Acts 1:9; 11; 2:33; Phil. 2:9-11; Heb. 1:3).
  1. WE BELIEVE…though originally good, Man Willingly Fell to Sin–ushering evil and death, both physical and spiritual, into the world. (Genesis 1:26; 27; 3:6; Rom. 5:12-19).
  2. WE BELIEVE…Every Person Can Have Restored Fellowship with God Through ‘Salvation’ (trusting Christ, through faith and repentance, to be our personal Saviour. (Luke 24:47; John 3:3; Rom. 10;13-15; 8:6; Eph. 2:8; 4:24, Titus 2:11, 12; 3:5-7;
  3. WE BELIEVE…and practice two ordinances—(1) Water Baptism by Immersion after repenting of one’s sins and receiving Christ’s gift of salvation, and (2) Holy Communion (the Lord’s Supper) as a symbolic remembrance of Christ’s suffering and death for our salvation. ( Matt. 28:19; Mark 16:6; Acts 10:47-48; Rom. 6:4; II Peter 1:4; I Cor. 11:26)
  4. WE BELIEVE…the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a Special Experience Following Salvation that empowers believers for witnessing and effective service, just as it did in New Testament times. (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4,8; 8:12-17; 10:44-46; 11:14-16; 15:7-9; 4:8; 2:42; Heb. 12:28; I Cor. 12:1-3; John 7;37-39; Mark 16:20).
  5. WE BELIEVE… The Initial Physical Evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is ‘Speaking in Tongues,’ as experienced on the Day of Pentecost and referenced throughout Acts and the Epistles. (Acts 2:4; I Cor. 12:4-10, 28).
  6. WE BELIEVE…Sanctification Initially Occurs at Salvation and is not only a declaration that a believer is holy, but also a progressive lifelong process of separating from evil as believers continually draw closer to God and become more Christ like. (Ephesians 1:22, 23; 2:22; Hebrews 12:23).
  7. WE BELIEVE…The Church has a Mission to seek and save all who are lost in sin. We believe ‘the Church’ is the Body of Christ and consists of the people who, throughout time, have accepted God’s offer of redemption (regardless of religious denomination) through the sacrificial death of His son Jesus Christ. (Rom. 12:1; I Thess. 5:23; Heb. 13:12, 14; I Peter 1:15, 16, Rom. 6:1-11; 13; 18:1.2,13; Gal2:20; Phil. 2:12,13
  8. WE BELIEVE…A Divinely Called and Scripturally Ordained Leadership Ministry Serves the Church. The Bible teaches that each of us under leadership must commit ourselves to reach others for Christ, to worship Him with other believers, to build up or edify the body of believers–the Church and to meet human need with ministries of love and compassion. (Mark 16;15-20; John 4:23, 24)
  9. WE BELIEVE…Divine Healing of the Sick is a Privilege for Christians Today and is provided for in Christ’s atonement (His sacrificial death on the cross for our sins). (Isaiah 53:4-5; Matt. 8:17; James 5:14-16
  10. WE BELIEVE…in The Blessed Hope—When Jesus Raptures His Church Prior to His Return to Earth (the second coming). At this future moment in time all believers who have died will rise from their graves and will meet the Lord in the air, and Christians who are alive will be caught up with them, to be with the Lord forever. (I Thess. 4:16, 17; Rom. 8:23; Titus 2:13)
  11. WE BELIEVE…in The Millennial Reign of Christ when Jesus returns with His saints at His second coming and begins His benevolent rule over earth for 1,000 years. This millennial reign will bring the salvation of national Israel and the establishment of universal peace. (Zach.14:5; Matt. 24:27; Rev. 1:7; 19:11-24; 20:1-6)
  12. WE BELIEVE…A Final Judgment Will Take Place for those who have rejected Christ. They will be judged for their sin and consigned to eternal punishment in a punishing lake of fire. (Mark 9:43-48; Rev. 19:20; 20:11-24; 21:8)
  13. WE BELIEVE…and look forward to the perfect New Heavens and a New Earth that Christ is preparing for all people, of all time, who have accepted Him. We will live and dwell with Him there forever following His millennial reign on Earth. ‘And so shall we forever be with the Lord!’ (II Peter 3:13; Rev. 21:22)

Tithes and Offerings

One of the bigger issues that we have in churches today is the giving of tithes and offerings. However, if people really knew and could grasp the concept of how powerful giving tithes and offerings is they would also do so with a heart of joy and thanksgiving. These are some of the reasons why it is in your best interest to give of your tithes and offerings.

  1. We are commanded to by God
In the Word of God it teaches that we are to give tithes and offerings to the Lord. God is only asking for 10% of our total income to be given to Him in tithes and for the offerings to be from the heart.
Deuteronomy 14:22 “You must set aside a tithe of your crops—one-tenth of all the crops you harvest each year. “
Many argue that this was an Old Testament practice under the law but there are many Biblical verses in the New Testament on giving, helping the poor and making sure that the house of God lacks nothing.
We also have to understand that when the law was abolished by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the basic concepts and ideas that the law was built on are still in effect, the only thing that was abolished was the need to give atonement for our sins through sacrifices because Jesus Christ was the ultimate sacrifice or atonement for our sins. But God is always the same He never changes, so it makes sense that His concepts and ideas wouldn’t change either.
  2. Fear of and Obedience to God
Giving tithes and offerings not only teaches us to fear God but shows God that we fear (respect) Him and that we are obedient to His Word and commands. When we give tithes and offerings out of respect and obedience with a cheerful heart the Lord is pleased. The Lord in return takes care of us and gives us His favor and brings great blessings to our lives.”
Psalms 33:18 “But the Lord watches over those who fear him, those who rely on his unfailing love.“
Psalms 115:13 “He will bless those who fear the Lord, both great and lowly.”
2 Corinthians 9:7 “You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”
  3. Keeps us from the Wrath of God
We can all agree that if we go around taking things that do not belong to us, it is called stealing and it will reap negative consequences should you get caught. Well the same is true when you refuse to give tithes and offerings to the Lord or you cheat Him by giving Him less that what is asked. We have to remember that the money we have is God’s money that He has entrusted to us, not our own. If we steal from God who is all knowing there will be consequences because we will be caught every time, and it is not at all wise to steal let alone steal from God.
Malachi 3:8 “Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, ‘In what way have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings.”
  4. Tithes and Offerings Builds your Faith
One of the biggest reasons why people have a hard time being faithful givers of tithes and offerings is because they don’t feel like they can afford it or they look at all of the things they need and want first and then don’t have enough left over to give. This type of thinking is basically telling God that you don’t trust Him to provide for all of your needs, and bless you with your wants if you are faithful in giving what is owed to God.
When we step out and we give tithes and offerings to the Lord, in essence we are sowing seed into His Kingdom and therefore we have the opportunity to be blessed and reap a great harvest. When we receive this harvest after stepping out and putting our faith in God instead of in our money we learn that God will always provide for us, and will always bless our obedience and therefore our faith in God grows.
Proverbs 28:20 “A faithful man will abound with blessings, But he who hastens to be rich will not go unpunished.“
  5. Tithes and Offering Bring Blessings
While it should never be your motive for giving of tithes and offerings, as mentioned briefly above when you give of these tithes and offerings you open the door in your life for blessings and God’s favor to be upon you because of your obedience to His Word. We can see in the following verses what God tells us about giving.
Luke 6:38 “Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.” Deuteronomy 15:10 “Give generously to the poor, not grudgingly, for the Lord your God will bless you in everything you do.” Just like everything else God commands or tells us to do, giving tithes and offerings is in our best interest. It will actually greatly help us to give back to the Lord what is owed to Him, and to give to others out of thankfulness for what He has so richly blessed us with.
